Architecture

A product of his determination to combat the climate crisis, Mitchell's work focuses on building tectonics and materiality. A student of the LETI framework he looks to reduce materials, design for maintenance and disassembly, and minimize operational energy in all his projects.

Ironically, Mitchell's graphical style aims to be clean and correct favouring substance over sensationalism. He deliberately limits his use of rendering software preferring to draw intimate scenes that demonstrate the experience of the place by hand, mouse or brush. This allows him to lean into his considerable artistic experience and affords him greater control over illustrations.

Graduating from the University of Reading in 2023, Mitchell is a recipient of the Dave Robins prize for Collaboration and winner of the Reading School of Architecture End of Year Show Competition. Mitchell also received a Technical Commendation from the RIBA's Berkshire chapter.

Art

Mitchell's work is centered on the notion of space beyond reality which was the focal point of his culminating exhibition at the Hopkins Center for the Arts (NH) entitled "Doorways". In his statement Mitchell said:

"I find the notion of space beyond reality to be a result of an idea left deliberately unresolved. This concept of an undefined suggestion fascinates and irritates me to the extreme."

Mitchell graduated from Dartmouth College in 2019 with a Major in Studio Art specialising in drawing and architecture. He was a recipient of the Classes of 1960 and 2010 Student Art Acquisition Award.
